A man's body has been found in floodwaters near Monto in Queensland's north Burnett this morning.

Police said the man aged in his 80s was reported missing last night when he did not return from mustering cattle to higher ground at his Glenleigh property.

An aerial search of the area this morning found the man's dead horse in floodwaters about a kilometre from the homestead.

The man's body's was found shortly after.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michelle Berry said Caniaview, north of Monto, had received 98 millimetres of rainfall over the past two days, with areas further north receiving up to 140mm.

Hydrologist Jess Carey said there had been river level rises throughout the upper Burnett catchment, with river levels at Monto peaking at about 5.5 metres.

However, Mr Carey said the flooding was not excessive, with five other flood events in the past three years producing greater peaks.

"There have certainly been rises in and around Monto, we still have a flood warning current ... but we've had much larger," he said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Woman rescued from roof of car

In another incident, a 25-year-old woman was rescued after driving into floodwaters in central Queensland.

Ambulance officers said the woman had to climb onto the roof of her car after water levels started to rise on Grasstree Road at Sarina, south of Mackay, on Friday night.

She was rescued an hour later.

Weather bureau spokesman Dean Narramore said there had been widespread falls in north Queensland.

"The focus last night was definitely about the Mackay region and inland, with ... 120 to 160mm falling in many locations," he said.

"The highest falls we recorded is 245mm at Sarina."
